Fish Tank

The location of which the film is set is in looks like a council estate. By the film being set in a council estate indicates that the area is probably developing and quiet rough. Normally in BSR films when it is set in a council estate there is crime/gang crime involved. The fact it is set in this location tell us that the people living there are probably working class. BSR films are normally about average British people going through their life, the location of the movie shows the that the characters are average people who may be going through struggles.

The people are dressed in tracksuits, shorts and tank tops. This tells the audience that the characters might not be very wealthy and are probably of a working class. In BSR films normally teenagers would be wearing similar style to this, which indicates that the person might be a quiet poor or a criminal. The fact that all the characters in this shot are dressed basically the same indicates that most people in this area are probably of a working class and are all in the same position financially.

The character in the opening sequence is by herself throughout the whole scene. This might tell the audience that she might be depressed or struggling with something. This might also tell the audience that the character has no one else such as family or friends. In BSR normally the main character is struggling for some reason.

This screenshot displays 4 boys, there is one black boy which connotes that the film mainly casted white people. They might have casted mainly white people to keep it realistic, as the area is populated my mostly white people. You can tell the boys are of a working class by what they are wearing. Their clothes are very baggy, this connotes that the clothes was not brought to look good but they was brought to last. this film uses generic conventions of BSR films as it shows people of a working class.

In this screenshot you can see a lot of cheap cars compared to others cars you would see. This connotes that the area is developing and the people in the area probably don't have a lot of money. This also connotes that the film is set in modern day as the cars are modern. Most of buildings in the background a block of flats which also connotes that the area is developing. In BSR films when people see block of flats, they would think of crime, gang violence and poverty.
In my opening sequence work, I will use mise-en-scene to help me introduce the characters. I will also use location to show the audience the struggles of what the characters will have to go through.
