My Media Summer
My summer involved a lot of media text such as films, music and TV programmes. There was a numerous amount of media text which appealed to me but there was a few which really did impress me.
One of the media texts I truly enjoyed this summer was a film called 'Dope' which is about a high school student and his two friends who bond over '90s hip-hop culture but live in the crime filled area of Compton LA where they happen to get caught up in and end up on a long journey. I would say the film was a comedy as well as a drama as it had elements of a comedy film which had me laughing throughout the film. This film appealed to me as the main characters of the film played the roles of teenagers which can be relatable as I am a teenager myself. I also liked the cast of the film such as ASAP Rocky, Zoe Kravitz and Tyga, they all played a good part in the film. There also was a good selection of music in the film. The music appealed to me as most of it was from the '90s so it could reflect the main character's personality.
Another film I enjoyed watching over the summer was 'Creed' which is about the journey of an upcoming boxer called Adonis Johnson played by Michael B. Jordan, who is being doubted by everyone until they find out his father was one of he greatest boxers in the world. But having a father with such a name has good sides and bad sides as he is always compared to his father. But then is later on trained by Rocky Balboa who is played by Sylvester Stallone and helps him live up to his fathers name. I enjoyed this film as the story really did pull me in. The film reminded me a lot of the classic film 'Rocky' which I also enjoyed. The boxing scenes were very intense as they was never predictable and the way they was filmed made them even better. It also included a scene which was filmed to look similar to a scene in the film 'Rocky' where Rocky is running up the steps in Philadelphia which I thought was done well. I think the music chosen fit well with the scenes. Even though the film is a drama there was also elements of romance which made the film and the story more interesting.
Another media text which appealed to me was a series called 'Breaking Bad'. This is about a middle aged high school chemistry teacher named Walter White played by Bryan Cranston with a very low salary and is also dying from cancer. He needs to find a way to help his family before he dies and teaching is not getting him the money he needs, so he turns to drug dealing. But the he gets caught up in the life of a criminal. I enjoyed this series as you saw Walter change through the whole series from a harmful chemistry teacher to a deadly drug lord. The end of every episode I always wanted to know what was next in the story and was rarely predictable. There was a lot of symbolic signs in the series which always had me thinking what it could represent.
